ACTION ALERT: SUPPORT HJR 1603 (Williamson) Recall of County Officers and Commissioners

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

All,

We urge you to SUPPORT HJR 1603 Recall of County Officers and Commissioners, sponsored by Rep. Jayer Williamson in the Florida Legislature. This bill proposes an amendment to the State Constitution that would authorize the Legislature to provide for recall of county officers and commissioners.

In Florida, only municipalities and charter counties are eligible to conduct recall elections of elected officials (e.g., County Commissioners). Santa Rosa, Escambia, Okaloosa, Bay, and Walton Counties do not have charters, which means that if corrupt or incompetent County Commissioners are elected in these counties, there is no means of removal from office during a four year term, short of resignation. This is unacceptable and unfair to citizens who live in these and all Florida counties without charters. This bill, if passed by the Legislature, would allow Florida citizens the opportunity to amend the State Constitution by voting for a change during the 2022 general election.

So we are asking that you support this bill today by doing the following:
